Philippine Airlines (PAL) has offered the government to build a brand new, Manila airport worth $400 million or roughly P20.7 billion by 2018.
PAL has offered to invest greatly as the government’s partner in building a new airport terminal.
President of PAL Jaime Bautista was quoted saying: “PAL is willing to take in a partner for the terminal project at Manila’s congested airport, once they get the go-ahead from the government. If we are allowed to start construction in 2018, then it should be finished by the end of 2020.”
Bautista stated that if everything goes according to plan, the new terminal will be able to accommodate an additional of 12 million passengers.
He described the inconvenience of congestion in the current airport: “Designed for 30 million passengers, the number of passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport reached almost 40 million in 2016,” he said.
They are planning to build the new airport near Manila. This also came after, NAIA was finally out of Asia’s Worst Airport list, according to travel website “Sleeping in Airports”.
